Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. — Martin Luther King, Jr
Notes from the Huberman Lab Podcast
More notes from the Huberman Lab podcast, focused on health and wellness, exercise, and nutrition. Today I listened to a couple of different episodes while exercising this morning, and then while cleaning the house later this evening:
Rick Rubin & Creativity
- Creativity flows best when we’re authentic to ourselves and not worried about what other people think
- Approach a specific creative process with the mindset of a diary entry
- You write in your journal in order to get all of your feelings out in a raw, unadulterated form, rather than trying censor yourself
- Writing in your diary or journal and censoring yourself is absolutely silly; you might as well not write in your journal then…
AMA Episode
- Anterior Mid Cingulate Cortex
- Portion of your brain that is responsible for will power and grit, getting through tough things
- When you shy away from tough things, this portion of your brain can atrophy, causing you to continue to feel like hard things are too challenging
- When you confront and push through hard things, you actually increase the activity (and size?) of this portion of your brain, enabling you to increase your tenacity / will power to overcome hard things
