Changelog Pod Learnings

Yesterday I listened to episode 12of the Changelog & Friends podcast titled “You call it tech debt, I call it malpractice” featuring Kris Brandow. Given that this was a bit more of a “chatty”, meandering episode, there were a couple of topics covered, almost all of which I found to be profound.

• The first main topic covered was about the misconceptions of what Waterfall Software Development actually means, based on what the original waterfall paper suggests
  • Kris wrote a blog post on this very topic that I’m starting to read through that I think would be very valuable
  • This post is likely something that I might want to plow back into SOLVD in terms of standardizing more on our project management side
• The paper (and Kris) promote spending MUCH more time documenting and designing what you’re going to build rather than just saying "AGILE" and building stuff without better documentation
• The term “tech debt” is used way too liberally
